Summer Stunt Tip Tuesday!

with Kenny La from Australia

Hey guys! This week we are having a look at the common mistakes during a partner stunt toss

When partner stunting with someone, whether it be the first or your 1000th session, we always need to make sure the TIMING between base & flyer and BODY POSITIONS of the flyer is on point. Below are some of the common mistakes that I’ve personally come across while training & coaching

RIP Kate Spade

Fashion giant Kate Spade was found dead in her apartment on New York’s Upper East Side at 10:20 this morning. Her death appears to be a suicide by hanging, with a note left for her 13yr old daughter assuring her it was not her fault.

Kate Spade launched her fashion empire in 1993 with husband, Andy Spade. Her initial line of 6 functional and stylish handbag designs was the launch pad for shoes, luggage, and other accessories, as well as a home line and stationery and three books. Selling the company in 2007, Spade and her husband began a new line, Frances Valentine.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Spade family and friends during this time.

If you or a loved one are experiencing depression or suicidal thoughts, help is available.

Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-8255 where lines are open 24hrs a day.

My Name is Rory, and I’m a Cheerleader

I am a cheerleader, I’ve been doing cheer since I was three years old and yes, I’ve been bullied because of it.

Just recently I asked 30 people, “What is the first thing you think of when I say cheerleading?”

A few people said pom poms, some said football, randomly one said pizza but the majority said “girls”.

Happy Pride Month!

June 1st marks the start of glitter, rainbows and cute boys and girls making out with cute boys and girls, right? Well yes, and no. Pride Month is a time for LGBTQ (that’s Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans and Queer or Questioning) to celebrate their history and the social and political gains that have been made locally, nationally and internationally. It’s also a time to recognize that the hate crimes against LGBTQ members of the community are on the rise and that there is still a long way to go for equality and acceptance.

The cheerleading industry has, mostly, been a welcoming space for people who identify as LGBTQ, providing a space where they are celebrated and accepted in a sport they love. There are industry leaders including event producers, media, gym owners, coaches and governing body board members who are able to live their lives openly and with love, and be strong role models for young men and women, whatever their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Over this month, we’ll be posting about LGBTQ history and stories, including from our own community! If you have something you want to share, let us know!

4 Ways to Take A Mental Break Without Leaving the Gym

Cheer is a year-round sport, there really is no off-season! Even if you don’t physically need a break, your brain probably does. Taking a mental break can help you reset and actually make your skills better and easier to achieve because you’re not so focused on that singular outcome. But, if you’re anything like I was as a kid, the thought of being away from the gym in summer makes your heart hurt.

So how do you give yourself time off without having time off?

Summer Stunt Tip Tuesday!

with Kenny La from Australia

Hey guys! So for today’s Stunt Tip Tuesday we’re having a look at the importance of warming up 🔥

Whenever you’re about to go into a stunt session, whether it’s partner, dual or group stunting, it’s always essential to warm up first. Here are some reasons why:

🤕 INJURY PREVENTION 🤕

Doing a stunt warm up gradually increases the heart rate and blood circulation, allowing the required muscles to stretch and loosen up. This prepares them for the session ahead allowing a lower risk of injury. The key muscles that should be warmed up include those in the shoulders, back, legs & arms.

“HEALTHY”

by Bethany Stover

Healthy. In 2018 most people think this 7 letter word equates to a certain outward appearance that defines the internal state we are in. I, like most people, fell for this trap. Thinking that success, happiness, and health came from only eating superfoods, weighing under a certain amount, and believing that unless I portray an image of being 100% healthy 100% of the time, I was not enough.

I had a lot of people fooled.

Giving advice I wasn’t even taking. I got applauded for being a health expert. But little did most know, my health was deteriorating. Continue Reading
