Trophies Casting – Roles

Trophies is casting the following roles:

 

Type: Background Performer

Role Description: Various athletes, Coaches, Event Staff, Moms, Dads and Supporters present at a major National competition. A group of cheerleaders and their coach block an injured coach from view while she receives emergency treatment. Several onlookers try to film the event. Some knowledge of choreography is helpful as there will be specific movements required to mimic the types of transitions done during a routine.

Role Description: A team member on the Legacy Athletics Lightning Team. A 20 year old program with 15 worlds titles, and back to back titles in the past two years. Last year was supposed to be the three-peat but they lost their coach when she had a brain aneurysm at Dallas while they were on the floor hitting the best routine of their lives. They are back to cheer again to keep their coach’s legacy alive, but are grieving. Faced with a new coach they struggle with all the stages of grief and rebellion. They have bonded through trauma, but that doesn’t stop them from having high expectations for each other.
Minimum Skills: Standing Tuck (prefer Standing full), running to double full (optional but show us your best running skills), level 6 stunts flyer/base/backspot or featured tumbler. Cheerleaders must be exceptional athletes and performers, and be able to show a range of emotions during performance including joy, anger, sadness and despair.

Role Description: On paper, Amber should be an entitled brat. Her parents built the gym for her to cheer, and for her Mom to coach. Instead, she is the picture of humility, sensitivity, and kindness – often to her own detriment. After her Mom’s public death during a competition, her father is doing everything he can to keep the gym running and help Amber maintain some sense of normalcy. Amber feels like a leaf being tossed in the wind and is confused by her feelings for her teammate and best friend Bella. Cheering is the place she feels safe, but the gym and she are changing faster than she’s ready to accept.
Minimum Skills: Standing full, running to full, level 6 stunts (prefer base but will see fliers).

Role Description: Bella always saw herself as the queen of the cheerleaders; beautiful, strong, and most popular in her friend group, but she’s discovering that loyalty doesn’t come easily, and popularity does not a leader make, and she resents it. She has difficulty getting her parents, or anyone except Amber, to take real interest in her life. The ostentation of cheer makes sense as a place to get attention, but is that attention enough to fill the emotional void of a neglected child?
Minimum Skills: Standing tuck (prefer standing full), running to full, level 6 stunts (prefer base but will see fliers).

Role Description: (15) A responsible rebel. Her mom, Sarah, is a sensitive soul with addiction issues. Chelsea carries most of the responsibility for the family. Dry wit. Cheer is the place she gets to be a kid. If she can get to practice on time.

Role Description: Tumbler, former flyer, and newly appointed power base. Gymnastics was her life until a hip injury took her off the Olympic track. Cheerleading is her replacement for that. She doesn’t really take it seriously but needs the structure in her life. You get the feeling she is barely staying out of trouble, even though she’s good at playing the obedient athlete role. Mom is a helicopter to the max, although it seems like she cares more about Krista’s achievements and how they make her look, than whether they make Krista happy.
Minimum Skills: Standing full, running to double full (optional but show us your best running skills), level 6 stunts flyer/base (should be more proficient as a base).

Role Description: Star athlete and daughter of Roberta. Former competitive gymnast and has moved frequently to work with the best coaches. Very disciplined and quiet. Her superpower is knowing what people want from her before they know how to ask.

Role Description: An athlete with a very active Instagram following. Seems to be in it for the fame, although she’s just very talented and works hard because that’s what her Mom wants from her. Does not yet understand that her value lies outside of her looks and athletic skills. Back Spot and Tumbler.

Role Description: Once one of the top coaches and choreographers in the world, she has been out of the cheer business for almost ten years. She’s back because she has unfinished business with coaching, with the industry, and, mostly, with herself. She feels she gave up before she got to the top, and she sees this team as an opportunity for redemption. Her ten years away were spent chasing a career as a publicist, but her heart has never been in it, and she frequently needs to go to her sister Melanie for handouts. Being back in the cheerleading world is reminding Caroline of who she was before she left; a true leader. One who empowers others to become leaders themselves.
Must be familiar with cheerleading or a former cheerleader – will be required to lightly demonstrate skills – no stunting required.

Role Description: Down-home handsome, slightly aloof. A caring father who lives in a bit of a man-bubble. He has a long history with Caroline. Including an affair that led to the breakup of Leslie, Caroline and Melanie’s relationships, and which he does not know sired Caroline’s son, Jason. He is riddled with guilt when it is revealed Leslie’s aneurysm was due to a blood clot caused by her miscarriage, and anxiety over helping his daughter, Amber cope with that loss. A very successful businessman who had previously only gambled on start-ups, he finds himself in financial trouble after one too many nights at the online casino, the timeless place where he can forget all that his smile is hiding. Will his pride get in the way of the humility required to get help? If not, his behavior could cause his worst nightmare to come true. The destruction of his wife Leslie’s Legacy.

Role Description: Tammy’s identity is tied up in being the self-appointed Captain of the Booster Club and proud mom of the team’s top tumbler, and point flier turned base Krista. They’ve been with the gym since the split from Melanie and Caroline, heck, she’s the one who encouraged Jim and Les to keep it going. She even offered to invest. After the loss of Leslie, she’s taken it upon herself to maintain that legacy, her Legacy, and that means looking out for what’s best for the program, at any cost. She believes that she is doing what’s best for the kids but unconscious of her need to be in the spotlight.

Role Description: Former Division 1A track star, now the mother of two promising athletes. Madison, a Legacy Cheerleader, and Jackson, an up and coming track star himself. Roberta does not suffer fools and knows a good coach when she sees one. She has high expectations for herself and her family and runs a tight ship, but she’s perceptive, loyal and generous to a fault.

Role Description: Gym administrator, independently wealthy and does the work for fun and because she loves the girls. In love with Jimmy. Always giving heartfelt compliments that come off as insulting. Knows everyone’s business, doesn’t like to rock the boat but always seems to be doing it. Mother to Graham, and still “mothering” him even though he is in his late 30s and lives with her.

Role Description: Assistant coach, former Cheerleader, loves the sound of his own voice, always with the eye rolls, poses and loud slurping of smoothies. Knows how to turn it on when he wants to and can light up the room with his smile, epic strut and dance style. Lives at home with his Mother, Gym Administrator, Patty. Wants Caroline’s job, but doesn’t want to actually do any of the work.
Prefer someone with cheer or competitive dance coaching experience. Certification to spot tumbling a huge plus. Does not need to be physically fit. Open to male, transgender or anything on the rainbow.

Role Description: Emily’s Mom and instigator and sidekick to Tami. Comedic timing a must. Grounded comedy.
